Katy beat Katy Taylor 66–0 Friday. North Shore beat Channelview 77–0. Put those together and you get 143 points scored, none allowed, and two opponents who found the scoreboard an uncooperative piece of equipment.
Give both winners credit for complete-looking finals. North Shore’s result also needs the previous week attached to it: a 42–21 loss to C.E. King. Seventy-seven points against Channelview cannot reverse that head-to-head result.
The current Beard Poll lists King third, North Shore fourth and Katy sixth. North Shore has supplied a forceful response to a loss. King has supplied the win over North Shore.
Both belong in the evaluation. A big number can grab a fellow’s attention in a hurry. The sensible thing is to keep the rest of the schedule on the desk while admiring it.
