Longview’s 35-point quarter leaves Horn chasing an empty evening

Longview already led Mesquite Horn 14–0 on Friday when the Lobos scored 35 points in the second quarter. By halftime, the advantage was 49–0 and there was precious little left to negotiate.

The Lobos won 56–14 and improved to 8–1. Horn dropped to 0–9. Keep the opponent’s record beside the final score before making this a grand declaration about November.

Horn scored its 14 points in the third quarter. Longview added seven in the fourth. The game had acquired its shape much earlier, when the Lobos turned a two-touchdown lead into a seven-touchdown halftime cushion.

Longview was supposed to handle this assignment. It did so with the sort of second quarter that keeps a favorite from spending the rest of the night explaining itself.

There will be tougher opponents and more revealing games. For this one, an 8–1 team did the work in front of it. The Lobos can take that win into November without borrowing any extra significance from a team still looking for its first victory.
