Allen reaches November unbeaten, with bigger business ahead
Allen went to McKinney Boyd on Friday and settled the competitive portion of the evening before halftime.
Twenty-one points in the first quarter, another 21 in the second. At 42–0, the Eagles had given themselves a comfortable second half and everybody else a pretty clear understanding of the difference between these teams.
Allen won 56–14 and improved to 9–0. Boyd fell to 2–7. Keep both records handy when discussing this one.
An unbeaten Allen team ought to handle a struggling district opponent. Give the Eagles credit for doing it promptly. They didn’t spend three quarters letting Boyd believe an upset was available, then need somebody to save them late.
The lead reached 56–0 in the third quarter. Boyd scored twice in the fourth. Those touchdowns belong in the box score, but they offer little explanation of how the game was decided.
The useful part for Allen is the way it started. The Eagles played their way into a 42-point halftime cushion instead of relying on their reputation to carry the evening.
Championship talk can wait. Friday supplied another win and another example of Allen taking care of the opponent in front of it. Nine games into the season, that has been enough to keep the Eagles unbeaten. November will ask for more.
